When all around are shaken, despairing hearts within,
You remain a stoic, sweet homeland, calm,
Counteracting a youthful lunacy, containing innocent sin
O! Friend, with thy steady heart, thy open palm,
Fear not the future, nor the hearts of others,
For the world is not as dark as you fear it be,
And in all hatred the sweetness smothers,
And the love that seems so absentee,
Is waiting for that one bright moment of truth
When all is done and future folly complete
And we remained a honeyed eternal youth
With an entire human race to meet.
So fear not, oh dearest friend, for the dread of passing days
and live forever in a blade of grass, and dance in summers haze.
